The earliest evidence of Emmer wheat cultivation dates back millennia (6000 – 5000 BC). Also known as khapli, popathiya, godhumalu, ravva and samba, this low-gluten, ancient grain is grown in small pockets in Maharashtra, coastal Saurashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
